About

I’ve worked in the charity sector in the UK for the whole of my 10+ year career. I’ve worked for some of the biggest and smallest organisations, including a stint in the commercial sector providing professional fundraising services to charities (more on that no doubt) and an opportunity to create the first industry body to regulate street fundraisers (or ‘chuggers’, if you really must use that term).

I’m currently completing an MBA at Imperial College London, am working part-time for a local arts organisation, and through my company re-focus am consulting for one of the few web development companies who actually ‘gets’ the charity sector (as opposed to just seeing it as a source of cashflow when their commercial client base dries up!).

I’ve always had an interest in how charities can use technology – specifically the internet. Things move so quickly which – barring one or two notable exceptions – usually means that charities are always a step behind the commercial sector.

Yet it doesn’t have to be this way. There are people out there who are already delivering services to the commercial sector, but also understand fundraising.

And so to this blog.

My objective is to highlight smart uses of technology in the charity fundraising sector. I’ll be sniffing stuff out – including from the Australia, Canada and US, who are much more advanced than the UK – and commenting on it here, giving my take on its application to the UK market.

If you come across anything interesting, please let me know about it and I’ll review it here.
